Saturday afternoon and we were delighted to be joined by two interstate acts Smith & Jones and The April Family.  After a brief chat, we were entertained by original songs and stories!

Casey Radio presenter Corinne King has this review!

On Saturday 23rd March 2019 it certainly was a very eventful afternoon which turned out to be an experience of great musical fun for us.

We were invited to attend the "in studio / in house" recording at Casey Radio of "A Storytellers Session" by Nia McMartin, President of Casey Radio.

Smith & Jones

Nia McMartin runs "The Storytellers Sessions",  a very unique, interesting & fascinating series of "interviews with Musicians.  She has a very classic style & approach and traces the origins of how the Musicians in the Studio come together to be performers, this in itself embraces the interest in the audience who await to hear the fascinating outcome in the "storytelling session" prior to the musical performance in the Studio where Nia's "Sound Engineer" husband Bill McMartin is 'seen and not heard'  recording the entire evening's proceedings.

We started off our afternoon at 4pm at Casey Radio for the recording of 2 very special bands that came down from Sydney the afternoon of the 23rd March for "The Storytellers Session" where Nia interviewed each band prior to their individual "in studio" gig!

The 1st a "duo" called themselves "Smith & Jones",  two very talented young women Abby Smith & Sophie Jones who originate from Bathurst & Tamworth in N.S.W. respectively.  Their harmony was superb and they were continuing later into the City for another "gig" and they also had a "gig" at the Warrandyte Music Festival on Sunday 24th March too.

Abby Smith and Sophie Jones write their own songs and have a rich repertoire with their individual style and arrangements.  The lyrics of their songs relate to events and stories that have occurred in their lives.

Abby is excellent on keyboards & vocals and Sophie plays guitar and harmonica, an excellent blend with their combined musical talent and rendition of the style of song they sing.

There will be no Musical Entertainer or Group who doesn't have a Mentor & Producer, and Abby Smith and Sophie Jones have the guidance, encouragement and patience extended to them from Michael Carpenter.

The April Family

The 2nd group we heard on Saturday afternoon (23rd March) at Casey Radio was a "trio" who were called "The April Family", comprising of Michael Carpenter, Casey Atkins & Kylie Whitney who were a delightful blend in themselves as well.

Again with this "trio", ably steered by Michael Carpenter, who is their Producer, Mixer & Master Engineer and also their Co-writer of all their songs that are sung.   Michael Carpenter is multi-talented as he is a vocalist, their drummer, bass guitarist & acoustic instrument player.

The tall and lanky female singer in the "trio" Kylie Whitney, is a vocalist and the other Co-writer of their songs.

The third member of "The April Family" is Casey Atkins, vocalist & lead guitarist who completes the blend of the "trio".

Ian & I were so happy to have been invited by Nia to attend the "special afternoon" of the "Storytellers Session" of the "duo" of Smith & Jones followed by the "trio" of "The April Family".
