We’d love you to get to know our presenters and find out exactly what they’re thinking, so we asked John Broughton some hard hitting questions and here’s what he had to say...
1. What show do you present on 97.7FM and how long have you been on air?
JB: Retrospectives. Began during station’s test broadcasting period. First show October 1988.
2. Everyone has that one song on their iPod that they would be embarrassed to share. What is yours?
JB: Can’t give an answer to that. Never had an ipod, don’t even store music on my phone. I reckon there are no guilty pleasures in music anyway. It’s all subjective. Whatever moves you is ok! No need for embarrassment.
If you Google-search "he's part of the furniture", don't be surprised to see Russell Hanby's photo appear in the search results. An ex-teacher, Russell has been part of 97.7FM's line-up since 1995, and currently presents easy-listening program 'Midweek Matinee' every Wednesday 9am-11am.
We love this photo showcasing Russell's technical aptitude...utilising all devices to cover over 50 years of music (iPad, tape deck; record player and studio system Zetta).
Midweek Matinee: Wednesday 9am-11am
The '70s - silver stacks, sequins, hot pants and jump suits - and the tearful reactions provoked by appearances from the likes of Donny Osmond and the Bay City Rollers. Plus music from T Rex, the Sweet, David Cassidy, Mud and Alvin Stardust. The early 70s, a golden age for the soul singer, catered for the adult audiences, whilst teenagers welcomed the arrival of Michael Jackson. Then, in the middle of the decade, from soul music sprang the Disco Explosion. Including performances from Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Bill Withers, Rose Royce, and The Real Thing.
Seventies mainstream music found a place for disco, theatre, and of course, glam. The clothes too were amazing, as the decade saw a startling array of sassy costumes, from satin trousers and bobble hats to bacofoil body-suits and boas. Featuring performances from Abba, Sparks, David Essex, Wings, Kate Bush, Boney M, 10CC, The Carpenters and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.
Join Gary Jackson Wednesday at 3pm for Sounds of the Seventies....groovy!
